What makes for good teaching?

Good teaching requires a clear outline of what is being taught and what is to be learned, both the teacher and the student need to understand this. The teacher should be able to grasp the interest of the student and understand how the student learns, what helps the student learn better, with the aid of proper resources and learning material, examples and experiences. A pace should be set where the student can learn comfortably but efficiently while promoting his or her natural skills/abilities.

The student also needs to be receptive and give the effort to understand what is being taught, to practice this knew knowledge, and retain it.

So in a sense good teaching requires mutual understanding, a good 'teacher - student' relationship  that is somewhat symbiotic.
